Mexico has inaugurated a US$140 million lab to manufacture influenza vaccines, a year after they received all the negative press for the swine flu. President Felipe Calderon says he's trying to make Mexico better prepared for the flu season. The manufacturing plant will produce 30 million doses of antigen, the key vaccine ingredient, annually! I think this could be the solution Mexico needs to prevent an H1N1 event from happening again. The H1N1 caused 17,800 deaths in more than 200 countries. CLICK HERE to read the article.
I also found this incredibly sad news story about an American Tourist who is missing after he and his wife went to visit a historic Mexican church and were shot at my mexican pirates! I am always shocked when i hear about pirates. Im not sure why, but i always think they are make believe until i hear about them doing something terrible! The man fled after the pirates open fired, and he has been missing ever since.
Oh! and for your listening pleasure here is a top ten list of the best mexican music EVER!! found courtesy of youtube! CLICK HERE! I talked in my last blog entry about traditional spanish fashions. I dont think it will prevent H1N1 if they cant distribute it efficiently to the population. Rural especially will be at risk, but a majority of the Mexican population is clustered and more accessible for mass immunization. Its still hard to believe that many deaths and many more unaccounted for, are due to H1N1. The flu at that, use to seem harmless, couple of days in bed with chicken soup.
